On December 14, 2025, a mass shooting occurred at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, during a Hanukkah celebration attended by around 1,000 people. Two gunmen, a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son, opened fire on the crowd, killing at least 15 civilians and injuring more than 40 others. Police shot dead the older suspect at the scene, and the younger was taken into custody and later charged with multiple offences including murder and terrorism. Authorities declared the attack a terrorist act motivated by antisemitism, citing evidence including extremist symbols found in the suspects’ vehicle. The incident, one of Australia’s deadliest shootings in decades, drew national shock, vigils, and calls for strengthened gun laws and hate crime protections.
