Alexander the Great

Alexander the Great and his Macedonian armies arrived in Afghanistan in 330 BCE, a year after defeating Darius III in the Battle of Gaugamela.
After Alexander’s brief rule, his successor state, the Seleucid Empire, controlled the region until 305 BCE. Later, under an alliance agreement, they ceded much of the territory to the Maurya Empire.
