22 June 2019, Jharkhand, India — Muslim construction worker Tabrez Ansari was lynched by a mob in Seraikela following allegations of theft. During the attack, the mob forced him to chant “Jai Shri Ram”, a majority‑religion slogan, while beating him. Ansari died in police custody after hospital treatment.
The incident drew national and international condemnation, with human rights groups calling it a religiously motivated mob lynching. India’s National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) later reported a rise in mob incidents targeting minorities, especially Muslims.
