At least 20 Palestinians, including children and a paramedic, were killed and nearly 40 others injured in Israeli air and tank strikes across Gaza, according to hospital officials. The dead were reported from multiple locations, including Gaza City and Khan Younis, where tents for displaced families were among the targets.
The Israel Defense Forces said the strikes were “precise” and carried out after Palestinian gunfire seriously wounded an Israeli officer near the Yellow Line, an area separating Israeli forces from Gaza. The military described the incident as a violation of the ceasefire and said it was targeting Hamas militants.
Hamas rejected Israel’s account, accusing it of using the shooting as a justification for continued attacks. Hospital officials reported that five children were among those killed in Gaza City, while two children and a paramedic died in a separate strike in the al-Mawasi area. The Palestinian Red Crescent said the paramedic was killed while performing humanitarian duties.
The International Committee of the Red Cross expressed alarm over the continued risks faced by first responders. Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of repeated ceasefire violations since October, as civilian casualties in Gaza continue to rise.
